Nightingale takes place in an alternate history Victorian era, around the year 1889, in which the world is split up into many different realms. The game's setting is "Gaslamp Fantasy", which features magic, mystery and fantasy races.
Worlds will also include weather based events such as thunder storms and many points of interest to check out
Realms are connected by portals, with the city of Nightingale as a main hub. Realms are described as "open-world". New Realms will be created in Conjunction with Nightingales sophisticated procedural generation system (Depending on the Realm Cards used). Fast travel mechanics have not been confirmed, other than Portals. Players will be able to make a realm their home and explore other realms from there as well as invite Friends and control who is in there realm at any given time. Realms vary in difficulty, and some might need specific gear or a group of players to explore, but yield better rewards.
Narrative World Building
Nightingale is a gaslamp fantasy universe. So expect some mysticism and a darker tale of survival. Some of the narrative will be told through the environments, some of it through codex entries, and some of it will be through NPCs.
